When mixed in the Soil, the granules soften and swell as water is added and absorbed; when the soil dries, the stored water is released. Saves watering time, reduces evaporation and soil compaction and minimizes transplant shock. Cost effective - lasts 3-5 years. SOIL MOIST is a synthetic acrylic polyacrylamide. We have modified and controlled the rate at which water is made available to the plants. A particle size distribution has been selected to insure rapid initial uptake of water by a portion of the polymer followed by slower absorption of water by the balance of the polymer. Good initial soaking is required to insure that both the soil and the polymer absorb water. Watering routines should be normal for five to seven days. Reductions and watering rates can then be established. From the initial soaking, the polymer will soften and swell. As the potting system dries, the polymer will release its water reservoir. A common complaint associated with some polymers is their tendency to "float" and work their way to the surface of the soil when subjected to a heavy watering schedule. Once on the surface, the polymer is ineffective. SOIL MOIST polymers negate this problem. The pH of SOIL MOIST in an aqueous system is approximately 6.2 - 7.0. SOIL MOIST particle distribution size is 1000 to 4000 microns. Soil Moist will absorb over two hundred times its weight in tap water (rated at 160 mg. NaCl/liter of water). Lower salts in the water will increase the absorbency of the polymer. Depending upon the ph of the soil, soil type, percentage of salts in the soil and water, SOIL-MOIST will work effectively in the soil for several seasons. . SOIL MOIST products are not multi-use polymers that were developed for other industries. SOIL MOIST products are specifically designed for the horticultural and agricultural industry. This converts to the following: 4" Pot = 112 tsp. 6" Pot = 3/4tsp. 8" Pot = l tsp. 10" Pot = 1/2oz. 12" Pot = 314oz. 14" Pot = 1 oz. 17" / 15 Gal. = 1.5 oz. Note: Soil volume will increase ten to fifteen percent when water is absorbed into the potting soil containing Soil Moist. Suggest filling your potting container only 3/4 full of Soil Moist and potting soil mixture. USING SOIL MOIST HYDRATED (WET): Add 1 oz. of Soil Moist to 4 quarts of water (1 lb. Soil Moist to 16 Gallons of water). Wait for about 30-45 minutes for the granules to fully hydrate and form a viscous gel. Mix the gel thoroughly with the planting mix at a ratio of one (1) part gel to six (6) parts planting mix by volume, ADDITIONAL USES When hydrated Soil Moist can either be frozen or heated. It retains temperatures resulting from direct cooling or heating for prolonged periods. Gel ice: Hydrate a moderate amount of Soil Moist and then put it into a "zip-lock" type of plastic bag. Freeze it and you create a long-lasting ice pack that out performs other gel ices and it is safe and non-toxic. Thermal paks: Follow instructions for "Gel Ice" and after sealing in 'zip-lock" type plastic bag, punch several "pin holes" in the bag and microwave for about 2 minutes at high setting. The Soil Moist thermal pak will last much longer than water alone. CAUTION: KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN SOIL MOIST IS NON-TOXIC. KEEP AWAY FROM OPEN WOUNDS.
